The BugHunt I game ended on 26 September with CCCP clearly at the top. TheBorg was determined to catch CCCP but was not able to find him until the very last stages of the game (when it was too late). BugHunt I was set up in the same way as BugHunt II in that all of your neighbours had skill level close to your own. One of the reasons, besides sheer skill and determination, that CCCP was able to race so far ahead of TheBorg was that he found the "fodder" part of the world sooner than TheBorg, and so while TheBorg was bashing up against tough opponents, CCCP was soaking up the fodder like a big red sponge. BugHunt I was run using the Empire2 beta code with the purpose of fixing bugs and fine tuning play-balance. The focus of this game was high tech land warfare. The entire planet was bridgeable, and countries started at tech 100. Thanks to the players of BugHunt I, the Empire2 server is now relatively bug-free and was able to be released out of beta. The countries of BugHunt I were given cash for reporting bugs, and a competition ensued to see who could find the most bugs. Values of bugs ranged from $50 (spelling errors) to $1000 (crashing the server). Khazad'ur ran *all* of the info pages through a spell checker and made alot of money that way! And thanks to him, there are now about, oh, 400 less spelling mistakes in the info pages. But he was not able to catch CCCP and TheBorg who were absolutely steller at reporting bugs to me. They both played very carefully and would notice even the smallest detail if it wasn't quite right. If you want to thank people for the Empire2 server, be sure to include them! I should also mention Lorphos who also worked very hard to find bugs in the server. See the bottom of this post for a list of the "Chief Buggers" of the BugHunt I game I should note that BugHunt II is currently running with twice as many countries as BugHunt I and is completely unbridgeable--the purpose of this game is to test naval warfare. Once over half of the players of BugHunt II are eliminated, I will announce BugHunt III which will be a test of the HIDDEN and SLOW_WAR mods. BugHunt III will have normal tech growth (as opposed to the artificially accelerated tech growth of BH I and II), low resources, and will have shared start islands. Deities out there should take note that if you want fairland to give you shared start islands, just set DISTINCT_ISLANDS = 0 in fairland.c.
