[Narrator's voice droning in the background, as if on a documentary. The screen shows snapshots of various ships, bases, etc. as it goes along]

NARRATOR: "The Exile incident began on November 1, 2199 A.D., when the starship Explorer 7 left Earth to map an unexplored region of deep space. The one-man expedition started out ordinarily, but then the unexpected happened...."

[Image switches to a cockpit/deep space/a ship in space. The panel beeps twice. The Exile's voice comes in -- somewhat strained and worried. It has static in the background, and occasionally (as noted) the static drowns out his words.]

EXILE, with heavy static: "<static> This is <static> ..lling the Explorer 7. Come in, Explorer 7..."

PILOT [nice and clear]: This is the Explorer 7. Please identiy your-"

EXILE [cuts in, somewhat strained and with milder static]: I haven't much time. You are at the extreme outer range of our communications system, and the enemy could jam <static>.
We are the Exiles. Long ago, we <static><static> to colonize and settle the galaxy. Our history you can learn later, for time is short.
We Exiles are a peaceful, but <static> forced into war: the forces of tyrrany have regrouped and are once again conquering the galaxy. We have tried to resist them, but <static> have failed. We still have a chance for victory, but if we do not act soon <static> be defeated -- and <static><static> Earth will fall as well.
We need your help. Locked away on the planet Arcadia is a key to <static> power generator. If that key can be found and <static> reactivated, we can <static> the Ancient's old battleships and easily conquer our enemy.
Arcadia, however, is locked: no <static> can enter it. Only a human from Earth could be transported through <static>: and thus we beg you to <static>...

PILOT [nice and clear]: Message understood, Exile. What are the coordinates for Arcadia?

EXILE: You won't need your ship: we can <static> you there. One warning: once you are under the Barrier you are on your own: until <static> is reactivated we will be unable to <static> you out...

[Then the game begins.]
