Readme: Chinese Union Bible Big-5 and hZ Petri Welling 5.3.1995 This is the same Union translation that is contained in the Bibud- package. My share is just getting it into test files, formatting and converting to hZ-format. For error corrections within the text check the contact information in that package. The Union translation is quite an old translation, so its style is somewhat classical. It is still the most popular version at least in Taiwan although there are newer ones available. It is something of a King James Version of the Chinese Christian community in some places. The Big-5 text is contained in the files: chineseNT.b5.tar.gz and chineseOT.b5.tar.gz And the hZ text in the files: chineseNT.hz.tar.gz and chineseOT.hz.tar.gz If you want just the New Testament, get chineseNT.b5.tar.gz or chineseNT.hz.tar.gz. Because of font limitations few of the characters will not show correctly in Big-5 and even more in the hZ. The hZ file has been produced with b5encode option '-bo', so it is compleately convertible to Big-5. If you use GB, there are free conversion programs available on the Internet. The format for the Big-5 is one verse per line with chapter and verse numbers. This makes for long lines. If you split the lines, be careful not to do it within characters. I have split the hZ version into reasonable length lines with delimiters. The splitting has been done by my computer with no formatting for style, so you might see a line with just a period or a comma. Feel free to contact me at pwelling@vipunen.hut.fi, if you have problems, suggestions, comments, etc. If you write in Chinese, keep it simple: my Chinese is not very good.
