From: griebeno@athena.mit.edu (Kai Griebenow) Subject: Kite Flying in San Diego Date: Tue, 9 Apr 1996 06:46:49 -1000 Organization: Massachusetts Institute of Technology Message-ID: <4ke49p$hfu@senator-bedfellow.MIT.EDU> Hi, I just came back from San Diego where I was able to spend the weekend. Now I have red eyes (took the redeye from LA), I am tired but feel ok. On Saturday I was able to fly kites with about 15 members of the San Diego Kite Club - great people! Steve Bateman organized this flight. The whole thing was initiated over the r.k newsgroup - virtual kites sometimes later fly in real winds ;-). It was very nice to see Paul and Dorine Imbach again after meeting them in Junction 1993 for the first time. They were flying the beautiful Tut-Ench Amun Kite - what a marvelous piece of work. Also the peacock delta was up. Paul had a nice new parafoil with a neet light effect. I was also very happy that Gail and Ed Lindsy were able to make the flight. They had all kind of food and drinks prepared and I had not to starve :-). Gail flew her beautiful cloud woman. Ed flew a couple of kites and later also a wonderful quadline bird kite. Later Jose Sainz joined in and also had a couple of new kites up in the air that I never saw before. He is working on new venting systems and the graphics of his kites are anyway out of the world. His son was with him (I think about 5 or 6 years old). He was flying a little Rokkaku quite perfectly. There is some optimism allowed here that the tradition will be continued :-). I flew my Danger of the Sun II Rokkaku, my patchwork sodes and some other kites. At one time we had about 15 single line kites up there - it looked like a real kite festival :-). Just beautifull. By the way, I liked San Diego and especially the climate (snow in Boston....) very much. I also love the Spanish architecture. I would really like to thank the San Diego Kite Club very much for their very friendly and kind reaction on my question on r.k. Isn't the internet great sometimes ;-). Happy Kiting Kai = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
