I've heard everyone brag about the "perfect" winds in the bay area :-) and I was wondering if anyone can give me directions to the best spots in the bay area. Of course if anyone is going to out flying on Saturday let me know where you are going to be as I would love to meet other rec.kiters and just basically have a great time that day. (Actually come to think of it a night fly on Thurs. or Fri. would work too... ) Thanks in advance for the advice -- ====================================================================== Travis Thompson | Internet: Thompsontra@phibred.com Network Manager | America Online: TTrav2 Microbial Environmental Services | Des Moines, IA | These opinions are my own, etc. ====================================================================== Program: n. I fly at the Berkeley Marina, which is actually at the "other" end of the Bay from San Jose. However, since I commute daily to San Jose from Berkeley, I don't think the 30-40 mile trek should discourage you. Directions: Take Interstate 880 north to Oakland. It turns into Interstate 980, and veers east. Stay in the right lane, following the signs to Interstate 580. Now get into the second or third lane from the right, and take 580 towards San Francisco. Don't panic yet -- you are in the middle of the Maze. As soon as you have made the transition to 580, get into the rihgtmost lane. This will take you to Berkeley. Take the University exit. You will find that you can only go east on University, but you will want to be going West -- improvize! Go west on University until you come to a T-junction, and veer right. Go until it ends. Welcome to kite heaven. This is not as bad as it sounds. The marina is less than five miles from the transition from 880 to 980. But, because of the Big One, which levelled the Cypress Interchange, you now have to navigate the Maze. >Of course if anyone is going to out flying on Saturday let me know where you >are going to be as I would love to meet other rec.kiters and just basically >have a great time that day.
