The Watchtower clearly invites one to check out their past predictions and dares one to find fault with it (sort of like what Gary Hart said when he challenged news reporters to find anything about his past that wasn't squeaky clean). Where to begin? There are so many examples. Let's start with how the Watchtower itself originally came up with the 1914 date which JW's looked for clues for the end of time in the "Great Pyramid" (let me point out again that this comes directly from Watchtower publications): From the Watchtower published book called "Studies in the Scriptures", Vol. 3 (early edition) Russell: "...This measure is 1542 inches, and indicates the year B.C. 1542, as the date at that point. Then measuring down the "Entrance Passage" from that point, to find the distance to the entrance of the "Pit", representing the great trouble and destruction with which this age is to close, when evil will be overthrown from power, we find it to be 3416 inches, symbolizing 3416 years from the above date, B.C. 1542. This calculation shows A.D. 1874 as marking the beginning of the period of trouble; for 1542 years B.C. plus 1874 years equals 3416 years. Thus the Pyramid witnesses that the close of 1874 was the chronological beginning of the time of trouble such as was not since there was a nation-..." Now let's look at "Studies in the Scriptures", Vol.3 (1923 edition) Russell: "...This measure is 1542 inches, and indicates the year B.C. 1542, as the date at that point. Then measuring down the "Entrance Passage" from that point, to find the distance to the entrance of the "Pit", representing the great trouble and destruction with which this age is to close, when evil will be overthrown from power, we find it to be 3457 inches, symbolizing 3457 years from the above date, B.C. 1542. This calculation shows A.D. 1915 as marking the beginning of the period of trouble; for 1542 years B.C. plus 1915 years equals 3457 years. Thus the Pyramid witnesses that the close of 1914 was the chronological beginning of the time of trouble such as was not since there was a nation-..." It is amazing what the Watchtower can do with history, including stretching the size of the structure 41 inches in one direction from 3416 to 3457 inches. What makes this even more interesting is that, in fact, BOTH of these figures are wrong. The length of this particular measure is 3384.904 inches. So this proves that the Watchtower fails the Biblical test as stated in Deuteronomy 18:18-20. -------------------------------------------- file: /pub/resources/text/apl/jw: jw-008.txt
